Now I've never visited an NGS garden but on a recent trip to Lavenham I happened to walk behind the church and from a footpath saw a pretty garden and a sign that it was open today.
I had a look on the site and not only did it look nice it had a number of sculpture in it so I thought what the heck. It's £5 for charity.
Lavenham Hall Garden is 5 acres and in the gardens are the ruins of Lavenham Hall, the building you see now is a mainly C16-C17 timber-framed and plastered building but considerably altered in the C18 and later.
The garden features the work of sculptor Kate Denton and the garden was restored by Denton and her husband Antony Faulkner. Now never having visited an NGS garden I left the camera at home and thought I'll use the phone if photos are permitted.
I parked in a field at the back of the church and wandered in. It was Kate Denton who I ran into on entry and I asked if it was ok to take photos "take as many as you like". So I did
I've seen a number of scultpures like this.
The garden is really lovely and one I could happily sit in and read a book it is greatly enhanced by the sculptures. Someone said to me if was it worth £5? Well I got to see a pretty garden some nice art and it went to charity. So yep definitely worth it.
