Upton House

Upton House was built in 1695. When James Lees Milne was looking to acquire the house for the National Trust after WWII he found it of little architectural interest but that the contents were very fine. These were collected Walter Samuel Vicount Bearsted the co-founder of Shell who purchased the house in the 1920's.

Lady Bearsted employed Kitty Lloyd-Jones who transformed the gardens. Honestly you wouldn't think there are any gardens at first glance.....

Alas by the time I arrived it was drizzling...... and flipping dull.

Your photos so capture Upton House. Glad to see that amazing bathroom again :) I think the gardens there are so lovely - the asters look wonderful. I have a feeling they hold the national collection????
