Well I've not been over the Forest for a while. Lots of rabbits about. Good numbers of Goldfinch and other common birds. Common Whitethroats were still in good voice and ever over the Forest Green Woodies were easy to find.
The stars of the show though were at the Lake. The Great Crested Grebe's had 4 stripey little chicks and it was great to watch them feeding fish to the young.
The Terns have bred (I believe this is a first) and it was nice to see the youngsters on the raft whilst Mum and Dad looked on.
As it was early I popped into Cambridge to visit Borders and then on to Wimpole. I've been here a few times and never realised it had a lake !!
St Andrew's Church
Wimpole Hall, Georgian finery.
But on to the park
and that lake. Not difficult to find!
lots of Dragonflies about. Most too far away but....
Black Tailed Skimmer, also a four-spotted chaser, an Emperor and a few Damsels including Red Eyed and Common Blue. There was a Hawker I couldn't get an id off and another one. Which was a Damsel size Dragon. Looked Darter like, as to species? Dunno
Also lots of common water birds...
The coot was standing near his nest which had a youngster.
The lake I was at had two parts, the bigger bit had loads of Greyag and Canada Geese.
I also saw a Little Grebe (looking stunning at the moment), Grey Heron, Green Woody and a Kestrel.
The park also has a folly.
Back to the House to view the gardens (imbibing lots of water, boy it was hot!).
Wimpole has a particularly fine Walled Garden.
Not sure what this little chap is.
And the rear of the House and garden.
