Well I arrived at Dunwich Heath ay 7:40 had a quick bite to eat and then went for a look around.
Two Greatss Spots and a Sand Martin overhead. The heath soon gave up its target bird, a lovely male Dartford Warbler.
Met up with Dave & Joy and had a quick look from West Hide, lots of Terns, Avocets, Spotted Redshank (some in near breeding plumage), Little Gull and a Greenshank.
At 9:45 8 of us set out. Anna and Michael arrived just after 10 but we never found them until 11:50 (mobile signal free zone!!).
Soon had a Marsh Harrier and then a Bittern leisurely flew towards us went straight over and meandered off - lovely.
From East Hide - no water!! and no Med Gulls!! I've never seen it so dry. Barnacle Geese with chicks and a few Waders.
The Little Tern colony was good to see.
The public hide had water! Picked out Sandwich Tern, more little Gulls, Spot Redshanks and Dunlin.
I went to get Anna & Michael from Bittern Hide and had lunch at the visitors centre. Dave, Joy and I took Anna and Michael to South and West hides for waders and terns and we had 4 Common and 2 Green Sandpipers.
No bitterns at Bittern hide but loads of Marsh Harriers and at Island Mere hide lots of water fowl more Harriers and a Hobby.
We all met up at the cafe to eat a scrummy chocky cake Anna had made and for me to open a lovely present from Dave & Joy. A Bittern that Joy had drawn.
