If you want to be elected today you have to be a young photogenic forward thinking individual. Its not about the past, you've got to look to the future. Now personally I think this is rubbish.
I've often been told that its ok to make mistakes as long as you learn from them. Now this is all very well but if you don't know your past...... I suspect the Government think that the past has nothing to do with them because today's world and its challenges are "new" and "different".
There is a phrase there's nothing new under the sun which if you read the story of Dr Lopez you'll soon realise is oh so true.
I'm sure after reading it you will note some resonances with the situation 500 years later. I wonder if our leaders would?

I was reading that article ealier. It really does echo a lot of the things you see happening now.
One of the problems with this government is their innability to understand and learn from the past. They like to bring up historical events when it suits them, but they don't really seem to understand their significance. It's as thugh they think they exist in some kind of bubble in time, completely separate from anything that has come before, or which will happen in the future.
