Upton House and Chastleton

It rained here last night. I do hope it did at home as we sure need it!

Today was another warm one. Not scorchingly hot  but still warm!

I started off by visiting Upton House. The house has never been a family home and its last owner Lord Bearsted turned it into a museum to display his collection of paintings and porcelain. The collection is very fine with Canaletto's, Guardi's, Hogarths, Bosch and a Gainsborough amongst the paintings.

This is on the back of the Triptych below (I've only taken the bottom panel). The main panel is Christ in the manager and on the reverse is Pontius Pilate. It's by Hieronymous Bosch

This face looks so real! Many look bland this chap looks like a real human being.

Alas the upstairs is still closed so I can't show you the fab bathroom.

There was a Hummingbird Hawk Moth about alas it wasn't staying put!

There was a brood of Little Grebes on the large pond.

The obligatory scone.

So on to Chastleton (I was originally going somewhere else but this is close to the pub... )

The church.

I decided not to go into the house it was a lovely afternoon so I pottered about the garden.

a nice day.

Both lovely properties - I love the garden at Upton House. You are still seeing a lot more butterflies than me :)
