Upton House

The forecast was not good for today but the rain came overnight and it was a nice day... a bit more sun would have been good but the temperature was my sort of thing.

I was off to Upton House. The house's importance stems from being acquired by the 2nd Viscount Bearsted whose father founded Shell Transport & Trading. Bearsted donated the house, gardens and art collection to the National Trust. The art collection is excellent.

The gardens look dull until you walk to the edge and look down. The gardens are normally amazing but they aren't at there best. Now if the NT read this it's not a criticism, I do understand! I know the gardeners take pride in their work and the last year has been so frustrating.

A family of six mature ducklings and mum.

In to the house.... alas the upstairs is still closed so you miss the fabulous art-deco style bathroom

The trug belongs to Kitty Lloyd Jones who designed the gardens.

some bloke called Hogarth ;)

I know, I know.... this one was better

A nice day

Looks lovely and very quiet there! :) I noticed too gardens at Packwood didn't look as good as normal but as you say that is not meant as a criticism - it must have been a difficult year plus for NT gardeners and volunteers. Scones look good - we once had the most amazing strawberry and cream slice of sponge cake there!
