A new Telly!!

I virtually live in my bedroom. Don't ask why but I do, I eat downstairs but normally I'm upstairs. But disaster had struck and the telly in the bedroom stopped working!! Given its easier to use the laptop upstairs......

So action had to be taken and I now have a shine 23 inch flat screen digital telly in the bedroom. It picks up freeview but there is one problem and that is I don't have an outdoor aerial (it is in the attic, was easier to do when I moved in.). So some digital channels have poor reception. I've flicked it to analog and the picture is MUCH better than the one downstairs. Anyway this means I'll have to move the aerial outdoors, I think my dad and I have been talking about doing it since ooh October 1994.

Two of my Amazon orders have been arrived. I finally get a chance to reread a Fire Upon the Deep by Vernor Vinge. Mum - Pete on Christmas Day "Have you come to see us?" LOL

I have freeview and an inside ariel! When we first got it, Phill was in the loft, moving the ariel back and forth, the picture wasnt getting any better, he was up there 30 mins, getting very frustrated, was coming back down when I realised I had the tv on the wrong chanel, switched it over and the picture was clear as a whistle!!! He did see the funny side of it eventually

BBC 1 and 2 are fine. ITV C4 and C5 the picture won't hold BUT it will be really good. May need to move the aerial about.

Fire Upon The Deep is one of my all-time favourite books. And I think that the sequel/prequel A Deepness In The Sky is even better. Enjoy!

curiously I have read Fire Upon the Deep and didn't enjoy it. I put this down to me as I've enjoyed other books he's written and two volumes of short stories so I want to reread it.

I read it first time when it came out.

We have freeview but the only channel we can get is the parliament one! Apparently it's something to do with the aerial pointing the wrong way. Just as well I don't watch a lot of TV.

I like Fire Upon The Deep less than the Peace War ... I can see why it would be difficult to get to grips with. I was completely transfixed by the 'distributed systems' of the alien 'dog packs' though - they made the book for me - rather than the 'ancient evil wanting to take over space' aspect of the book.
