Thousands of years of History

The Cotswolds is a wealthy area and it has been so for thousands of years as today proved.

In the middle ages? Well look at some of the Churches

St John the Baptist, Cirencester. It's a mish mash of periods.

The porch was connected to the church in the 18th century. It was built by Cirencester Abbey as an administrative centre.

Now this makes me smile.... apparently the  church calls this Cheesus!

Just down the road from Cirencester is St Mary, Fairford. It contains the most complete set of pre-reformation Stained Glass in England. With some attributed to Henry VII Glazier Barnard Flower who worked at Kings College and St George's Chapels. Fairford was consecrated in 1497.

If you are into that sort of thing do go. The glass is so easy to see!

Of course the Cotswolds had money before then hence the fine Roman Villa remains at Chedworth built in phases between the 2nd and 5th centuries

Nice view!

Lower Slaughter is a very well to do Cotswolds village with pricey hotels. Alas its one tea room had closed!

Ok the Rollright stones are close to my hotel so we can tell this part of the country has a LONG History!

Tomorrow might be quiet ;)

Fairford is an amazing church. Chedworth is interesting but there isn't a lot to see really. the mosaics are good.
