And so I am away again ;) My normal breakfast spot in the Cotswolds as closed so I went elsewhere and a nice breakfast sandwich.
I then went to Hidcot. Laurence Johnson excellent gardens with rooms. The garden was looking lovely and the sun was shining but the lack of butterflies was very disturbing.
I had done a recce earlier and there were no scones of the month. As the cafe queue was out of the door I headed to the barn kiosk and went "al fresco"
So after lunch I headed to Chastleton. It is Jacobean built around 1610. The family were catholics who backed the wrong side in the Civil war. Hence the family never had the money to modernise. The National Trust acquired the property in 1991 and rather than restore they are presenting it as it. Chastleton was built next to its village and isn't in a separate park which is fairly unusual.
As the sun was shining I didn't go in the house but thought I'd enjoy reading in the garden.
Hang on where's that sky come from! it rained briefly.... note to self put the small brolly in your bag!
It soon stopped. We need the rain!
A lovely first day

Hidcote is looking lovely - it is one of my favourite gardens. My over-rding memory of Chastleton was how dark it was in the house!! Did you go in the church next door - when we went they were serving cakes :) Have a great holiday.
Forgot to mention that this constant lack of butterlies is very worrying especially somewhere like Hidcote with all those flowers.
I didn't go in. I don't remember it as that dark. There was tea and cake !!
