Pre-Raphaelite glass and Castle Howard

My church list has badly stalled BUT I have one church in North Yorkshire yet to visit and today was the day.

882 St Martin on the Hill, Scarborough

The church was designed by GF Bodley and is packed with Pre-Raphaelite glass by Burne Jones, Rossetti and the gang.... Victorian glass don't come much better

The sculpture commemorates Mary Craven who commissioned the church.

A local school has done versions of stations of the cross....

So on to Castle Howard famous for appearing in Brideshead Revisited.

Building began in 1699 to a design of Sir John Vanburgh and took a 100 years to complete. A fire in 1940 destroyed the dome (rebuilt) and damage can still be seen. Painitngs lost includes 2 Tinoretto's.

A very interesting church Pete - love all the stained glass and the sculpture of Mary Craven (so unusual).
Castle Howard looks rather impressive!
