I decided to go to Fountains Abbey and thought I'd stick a small camera in my waterproofs pocket with a prime lens when I arrived at Fountains it was dry! So I stuck a bigger camera in my bag with a telephoto well ......
I stopped at the bird hide on route to the abbey.
Male Great Spotted Woodpecker! The light was hideous
This little chap is heavily cropped but record shots of a Tree Sparrow.
There were two juvenile Great Spots
On to the abbey
Hang on is that a hint of blue?
WOW this was totally not expected!!!
My view as I stopped for coffee
There are a pair of Oystercatchers with two chicks !
Some difference to earlier
Cherry and Almond Scone
So where to? The sun was out and as Byland Abbey was open.....
When I last visited you had to pay, it's now free, and the little hut was occupied with a lone person. I had a cup of tea in the tearoom and they said that it wasn't worth occupying the booth on a wet day out of season they may get no visitors. I have to say I wondered how safe it might be as on my last visit it was a young lady (the attendant came from Rievaulx) on her own but equally we had a nice chat.... still I like Byland it is so peaceful and stunningly situated. It isn't over commercialised and now there is a tearoom....
I love how nature finds a way
Curiously I decided I didn't need a telephoto in a ruin.... and a flipping Spotted Flycatcher decided to pose¬!
