Guernsey Day 3 - The Little Chapel and Guernsey's Wartime History

The Little Chapel was built by Brother Déodat, who started work in March 1914. His plan was to create a miniature version of the famous grotto and basilica at Lourdes in France. The version we see today is actually the third version.

As my next stop was not open Forest Church....

I had never been to the Guernsey Occupation Museum.... it is not huge but well worth a visit. Most of us in the rest of the British Isles knows little of what happened.

This is Fort Sausmarez.... it was a martello tower and during the war the German's turned it into an observation tower.

Looking across to Lihou

Memorial to the merchant seaman on the MV Prosperity that sank in 1974.

The L'Eree battery

I'm pretty sure this battery was not uncovered last time I was here.

This passage grave is over 4500 years old and is next to the battery!

So after lunch (crab sandwich strangely)

Les Caches farmhouse... in the care of the National Trust of Guernsey

Fort Hommet

Restored 10.5mm gun casement
