Guernsey Day 2 - the west coast mostly

Well my first full day and I wandered off to the west coast. It's more accessible than the South.

I headed to Roquaine bay and walked.

The view to Fort Pezeries

The Table des Pions.

Fort Pezeries. There are many coastal defences around Guernsey's coast. There has been one on this site since 1680 although it was extended during the Napoleonic War. Like many of these fortifications it was used by occupying German forces in WWII

Seen as I got my ticket for Fort Grey

Fort Grey was built during the Napoleonic War

The west coast of Guernsey has seen many shipwrecks over the centuries and today Fort Grey has been restored and is a small but excellent museum about them.

I stopped for lunch (Crab Sandwich) at the excellent Cobo kiosk. Off to the Rousse. This was built during the American War of Independence as France was an ally of the Colonists and there was a threat of attack from France.

The Grand Roques battery was also built during the American War of Independence.

I then wandered to Sausmarez Park

The National Trust for Guernsey has a lovely small museum celebrating life in Guernsey

I had another glorious meal :) Scallops followed by Sea Bass
