Cotswold's Gardens

A day without any National Trust properties!

I first went to Sudeley Castle. The present Castle is fifteenth century it was greatly damaged during the English Civil war. The castle is open to visitors I'm not sure it was on a previous visit.

The garden is particularly beautiful

You will have noticed a church earlier. St Mary's is the resting place of Katherine Parr 6th of Henry VIII wives. There was once a lady chapel in her honour. This was lost when Cromwell and friends slighted the castle. Today there is a rose garden on the spot.

The roof is victorian as most of the church was left unroofed.

Her coffin was found in 1782 and the Victorian architect JB Phillip & George Gilbert Scott designed the effigy and canopy respectively.

Next stop? Boughton House Garden.

And about 1/4 mile away is Sezincote which is one of the most unusual English Country Houses. It is said the the Prince Regent visited and was so inspired he built the famed Brighton Pavillion.

You visit the house by guided tour and it is well worth doing but by the time I arrived they were heavily booked and  I've been twice before so went for a wander around the garden.
