It's a bank holiday weekend and the sun is shining!!!
And so where to? Lets go to the seaside!
Just west of Colchester are three seaside towns. Clacton, Walton-on-the-Naze and Frinton they are within 6 miles of each other. I haven't been there for years and I mean years! 20 years at a minimum I'd guess. Frinton had a reputation has the most gentile the road in to it is crossed by a railway line and which side of the line you lived MATTERED. The crossing was manned not automated, there was no chip shop, no pub and god forbid no arcades. They were reserved for Clacton and Walton.
Frinton you might guess sees itself as more select. Times have changed a bit, the crossing is automated, there is a pub and a chip shop but no arcades. The Greensward (you'll see it in a minute) is still well maintained but now you can play ball games. There are lots of seats to sit and Dad an I had a nice walk stopping every so often to watch the world go by (the old boy will be 80 soon). We also had an ice cream and I read a fair bit Of Sharpe's Triumph (very enjoyable).

Interesting how neighbouring seaside towns differ. At while ago, I had a week's holiday at Butlins at Clacton!
Nice visit Pete. I haven't been to the seaside in years.
Now, where's my bucket and spade........
you've not been to Norfolk????
oh gosh you MUST go !! Titchwell, Cley....
I know Maldon and Harwich a bit but have missed Frinton-on-Sea - looks like a very pleasant spot. My 1927 Baedeker says of it, 'a small but highly fashionable bathing resort, with good sands'. So far so good, then. Goes on to say the Grand Hotel has '50 Rooms from 8s 6d' a night - great, I can afford it!
Hi Rob
think the prices have gone up a tadge
What a lovely day you've had and warm enough for people to actually sunbath on the beach.
Awe happy memories of that coast, remember many family holidays there with mum and dad, think i should go back sometime to relive some happy memories. You have captured the essence of the place really well.
