Guernsey Day 1

Well I got up at stupid o'clock and headed to Gatwick and got a turbo prop plane to Guernsey.

I headed for a coffee and then popped across the road to Fort Grey a Napoleonic fort now a shipwreck museum, small but interesting.

A Roman ship excavated in Guernsey.

I then went along Rocquaine Bay. To Fort Pezeries and the Tanle des Pions.

Lunch was a crab sandwich and I had a piece of Gache with my afternoon coffee.

I noticed Pleinmont Tower was open so I drove up. It was part of Nazi Germany's Atlantic wall. The defences on Guernsey must have cost a fortune but were never used as the expected attack never came as the Allies bypassed the Channel Islands.

Birds seen? Rock Pipit, Raven, Marsh Harrier, Linnet and a Barn Owl flying over the M23 this morning. Oh I saw a Painted Lady.

Love the Roman ship. Looks like you had a lovely first day and well done on the Painted Lady. Enjoy the rest of your holiday.
