Guernsey Day 3

So firstly The Little Chapel the work of Brother Deodat. He was a french monk who came to Guernsey in 1913 and once he saw the location formed the idea of a grotto like that at Lourdes. This is the third version he built on the spot and dates to the 1920s. It is built from pebbles and broken china.

So on to Saumarez park home of the Guernsey National Trusts Folk and Costume Museum. Sadly not only is the exhibit on the Tomato industry gone there is no longer a mention. It's been replaced by an art gallery 🙄

You can see modern French on the left and Guernsais (the Guernsey variety of Northern French, all of the main islands have their own version)

So back to Fort Hommet.

This Herring Gull eyed by Salmon and cream cheese sandwich but was way less daring than mainland gulls.

The Shrine of the Sacred Heart is made of sea shells in a WWII bunker by local man Hubert le Galloudec in the 1960s. It was constantly vandalised in the 1970s was closed and fell into disrepair. It has been restored in 2008. Today was the first time I've found it open.

I've been to the restored gun casemate a few times but every time they hav3 restored the area a little more.

Hungarian actress Lili Murati. She was accused of collaborating with the Nazis and went into exile in Spain when the communists took over.
