In search of Anne Boleyn

There are 3 Norfolk Stately Homes I associate with family holidays. Sandringham, Holkham and Blickling.

Blickling was the family home of the Boleyns and Anne was born there... well if you accept she was born around 1501 which most do. She never lived in the current house which was built on the foundations of Anne's but her ghost is still said to haunt Blickling.

The current house is a fine Jacobean mansion and one of my favourite National Trust properties.

I believe this is Teniers. He often depicted someone having a pee!

I had a sit by the lake and watched a Kingfisher sitting on  a wire under the  bridge.

Salle pronounced Saul, is a huge church nearby. It sits in a tiny village which was always small. It was built for processions and devotions of the medieval catholic church and was never full... I believe it is still well used for both services, posh weddings and concerts.

One of the benefactors was the Great Grand Parents of Anne Boleyn. (I have no idea if Anne ever came here as a small girl). There is a brass to them... see below.

I had not visited in 20 years but it is an amazing building

Salle - St Peter and St Paul

The Pelican of Piety apparently!!

Burnham Overy Town - St Clements

The Burnhams are a group of villages very close to the A149 and all repay a visit.

As you can see that central tower make the church effectively two! Very odd.

What a wonderful day Pete and super photos. Loved every place you visited. How I wish Norfolk was closer to us :) Love the Pelican of Piety I've seen several examples in churches. Norfolk does know how "to do" churches and stately homes! :)
