Finchingfield

I had a wander to Finchingfield this morning.

Always good to have a coffee!

It was a weird day weather wise! One moment it was wet then blue sky! 

St Mary Magdalene, Ickleton

I first visited Ickleton church many many years ago and thought it was time it turned up on the blog.

The church dates to the late  11th or early 12 century and some of the arches contain Roman bricks. The treasure of the church are the 12th century frescos and a 14th century doom. The frescos were rediscovered during a restoration in 1979 after pyromaniacs set fire to the church! 

Rye Meads

I wandered to Rye Meads this morning. 

Highlights? Lots of Cetti's Warbler singing, I saw one! 2 Little Egrets, 2 Green Sandpipers, 7 Snipe, Red Admiral and a Hawker Dragonfly.

The birds were not playing ball.

This looks like Frosty Jr but it isn't! so we have a new one 

These two are still down at the Newhall Pond. There was also a Little Grebe there. 

Frosty Jr was with Frosty and having a snooze.

Not sure if this is a newbie. Looks a little smaller.
