Abbotsbury Swannery

The excellent Abbotsbury Swanery made the news earlier this year when some dead swans were found to be infected with the H5N1 virus.

So it is good to see some good news reported. Cygnets have begun hatching from 60 nests and a further 100 nests are expected to hatch by the end of June.

I may have to pop in when I'm on the Devon/Dorset border and post lots of pictures of Cyngets.

Also in the news a pair of Black Winged Stilts have successfully bred in the UK for the first time in 20 years. The stilts are near Marbury Country Park in Cheshire and can be viewed through scopes as part of the RSPB's Aren't Birds Brilliant Campaign.

Might even pop in too on my way down to Devon; will be amazing to see so many at one time.

We were there a couple of weeks ago and there were already plenty of cygnets about.
