Castle Rising and Sandringham

Well it is holiday time again. It does feel a little odd to be on my own!

I stopped for breakfast at Waitrose in Swaffham (they've stopped doing a full breakfast but they do a decent Sausage bap). I decided that I would go to Sandringham and prebooked a ticket ( although I can get in for free pre-booking means parking is cheaper, well if £5 is cheaper LOL)

I stopped off at Rising Castle in Castle Rising. It is a medieval castle built after 1138. Queen Isabella lived there from the 1330's. It was used in the sitcom 'Allo 'Allo.

And so to Sandringham. Years ago you could park here which both my parents loved. I stood here remembering them (for obvious reasons if you know). A voice from a cloud muttered they've spoilt it :( and £5 to park!!!

Sandringham is the summer home of the Royal family and where they celebrate Christmas.

This garden is new! I approve. The King has made a few changes in the garden which I like. The parking was already changed BOO!

There were at least 4 geese families and 3 duckling families.

I sat here and ate my sandwich and pack of crisps. Annoyingly all of the soft drinks were full of sugar. So I had water.  I ought to add that the sandwich was nice and compared to Chatsworth very reasonable LOL

I found a seat and read some of my book.

The church of St Mary Magdalene although dating back to the 16th century it is heavily Victorianised after it was purchased for  Edward VII when Prince of Wales , It is used by the Royal Family and this is the one you see Christmas Morning. That tradition isn't that old since I doubt Victoria ever went here for Christmas.

This must be one of the most visited churches in the country. The estate churches at Holkham, Houghton, Felbrigg and Blickling get nowhere near the visitors. You can hear the Royalists purring.

A super castle. The nearest I have come to Sandringham was driving past an entrance when we were in Norfolk! The church looks interesting - I especially like the roof angels :) Enjoy the rest of your holiday :)
