Bergamo Day 2

We got the funicular up to the top af San Viglio. Alas as soon as we got there the rain started. We should have gone in the afternoon!!

We wandered back down.

The Basilica Santa Maria Maggiore is a very fine church. The exterior is medieval but the interior is a riot of 17th century baroque.

Not the greatest exterior shot but a fine entrance.

The Colleoni chapel. It's entered separately but is part of the Basilica. Worth visiting.  Alas no photos.  I don't understand why.

This is an outside washing area for residents who didn't have indoor plumbing back in the day.

The Duomo which is right next to Santa Maria Maggiore

The Baptistry

Shame about the rain but the church is just amazing! Love the metal doughnut shaped sculpture! By the way finally seen swifts and house martins - both back now in Herefordshire at least!
