Blickling

There are 3 Norfolk Stately Homes I associate with family holidays. Sandringham, Holkham and Blickling. It is frightening to realise that I have been visiting all 3 for over 45 years.!!

Blickling was the family home of the Boleyns and Anne was born there... well if you accept she was born around 1501 which most do. She never lived in the current house which was built on the foundations of Anne's but her ghost is still said to haunt Blickling.

The current house is a fine Jacobean mansion and one of my favourite National Trust properties.

This pair of Canada Geese had only 1 gosling

Whereas these Greylags had 5. And while I'm at it. At home I see very few Greylags whether on my walks or places like Audley. It is all Canada Geese. In Norfolk I am seeing more Greylags!

There were several mallard chicks. I also saw Reed Buntings and Warblers. A Great Crested Grebe and a first Common Tern of the year!

St Andrews is a medieval church BUT heavily Victorianised. I like the fact that the churchyard isn't manicured.

The font is medieval but the excellent Norfolk Churches site says it is recut.

This memorial is to the Marquess of Lothian who bequeathed Blickling to the trust. I like it but amusingly he isn't buried here!

There are many brasses some to the Boleyns.

Rhubarb and Rosemary Scone

I decided to walk around the lake. Got to get the step count up!

I then wandered into the garden sat by the lake and read. It is a spot by parents loved to sit and wile away an hour or so.

I'd love to visit there. The church is super too. It is always lovely (although sad too) to visit places you used to go with your parents. I always think of mine when I go to Packwood House.
