Catching Up

I had a nice time in Norfolk. I thought a quick update on local wildlife

As expected the goslings on the Common Pond didn't make it.  There are now 3 foals on the common which is good.

The 11 ducklings at Coalport are doing well. 

At New Hall all 6 goslings are growing well as are the 7 ducklings (i'll soon be unable to tell them from adults). There are moorhen chicks and cootlets! 

Felbrigg Hall

Well my last day in Norfolk. I went to Febrigg Hall (yes I have done no proper birding!). I wasn't planning to visit the house which was lucky as I found it was closed LOL

Felbrigg is a 17th century English Country House. Unlike the other properties I have visited this week it never had a "great" owner. The walled garden has really been transformed over the years and there are some good walks. It always feels like the poor cousin to its neighbour Blickling 

It was handed to the National Trust in 1969. Mary Mackie whose husband Christopher was administrator of Felbrigg for 7 years wrote 3 light hearted accounts of their time there and are a good light read.

St Margaret's sits away from both Hal and village. I'm not certain why there is no village nearby. Wikipedia blames a 16th century plague with no source given. It has a fine collection of brasses. These are under mats and I wasn't in the mood to undercover them today. One of them is of a Bohemian Duke's daughter Margaret, who I believe is buried there.

The church was empty and people were walking past. It has been altered over the years but I always pop in on my walk.  It is a peaceful place and I've always found it open.

So I noticed the house was closed but I walked into the west garden. Was it closed? I never saw another soul! 

Then into the walled garden which I had hoped would have butterflies but  only whites :( 

I spent the rest of mine time pottering about and reading. Relaxing
