Moseley Old Hall and Tamworth church

879 St Editha, Tamworth

St Editha is the largest parish church in Staffordshire and dates from the mid/late 14th century to 15th century. There is some medieval glass fragments but most is good quality Victorian.

And then on to Moseley Old Hall. Now I have visited over 210 NT properties and have never visited this one.

The house is not grand and in the general course of events I suspect the National Trust would not have acquired it but as the NT Scone blogger put it "it was given one chance of fame and it took that chance".

In September 1651 after being beaten at the Battle of Worcester Charles II he turned up at Moseley and stayed there for two days some of it in a priest hole.

And this is Charles II Priest Hole

And the bed he spent the second night in!

As an aside when Charles was dying in 1685 and declared that he wished to die in the faith and communion of the Holy Roman Catholic Church it was Father John Huddleston the priest at Mosley when Charles was hiding there who heard the King's confession, reconciled him to the Church and absolved him,

A good day relaxing day!

Another interesting looking church. It was great to see Moseley Old Hall as it is a place I have never visited - looks fascinating. I particularly like the knot garden there :)
