Berrington Hall

No rain today! just grey dull and cool!

Today I went to Berrington Hall.

Berrington was built between 1778-1781 for Thomas Harley, the landscape gardens were the last commission for Lancelot Capability Brown.

The walled garden is being restored and currently features an 18th century inspired "pavilion" by artists Heather and Ivan Morison.

Trust cat!

This is called War & Pieces by Bouke de Vries it's a mix of 19-21st century Porcelain, sugar, plastic and mixed media.

War & Pieces is an envisioning of one of the banquets held by generals before a battle showing deconstructured porcelain figures engaged in a deadly struggle with a giant central mushroom cloud composed of skulls, 'frozen Charlottes' (a 19th century mass produced child's toy) and presided overy by figures of the crucified Christ and Guanyins, the Chinese goddess of compassion.

It is really striking and works well in this setting. It won't be there much longer so definitely worth visiting.

Butlers area.

Nice scone!

I can't quite make up my mind whether I like or loathe the pink "pavilion"! But I do like the War and Pieces - it is stunning :)
