A day out

Had dinner with the folks last night. Roast Turkey all the trimmings - lovely!!

Off to Bury St Edmunds this morning. The town used to have one of the largest Abbey Churches in England.

Today little remains of the abbey church but you can work out how fine the church must have been by this magnificent gatehouse.

There were once 3 churches with the precincts. Only two survive and St James was elevated to cathedral status. The tower was the millenium project.

On to Ickworth for lunch. You can see here the Rotunda which was built to house the collection of the Earl's of Bristol. This is taken from the rear. From the rotunda are two "corridors" attached to which are two further wings. One the family lived in (today its a hotel), the other was added for "balance" and is now partly the National Trust Restaurant.

Lots of common woodland birds about. Chiffchaff, Goldfinch, Chaffinch, Blackbirds and Tits. Wandered around the lake - Mallards, Tufties, Greylag, Canada Geese, Moorhen and Coot. And two nice male Reed Bunting and a fly through Green Woodie. Watched dog couple (10 dogs) throwing sticks in to the lake for the dogs to run in for. Annoying as there were Geese on the Islands on Eggs and they seemed a bit put out.

Lots of Lambs about .

Down to the deer enclosure ........ and then home.
