Helmsley Castle and Nunnington Hall

Well I'm in Yorkshire. It's flipping hot but given at home we have a red alert at home!!

I went to Helmsley not realising the walled garden was closed on Tuesdays 🙄

Helmsley castle was built in the 12th century and extended over the following centuries. It was visited by Edward III and was briefly owned by Richard III. It was slighted during the civil war although the mansion survived but fell into disrepair.

Nunnington Hall was probably built on the site of a nunnery that predated the conquest. The earliest part of the current house dates to the 16th century. I spent the time finding seats in the shade, drinking water and reading.

Helmsley castle looks interesting - shame about the garden being closed. Lovely gardens at Nunnington and the scone looks really delicious. Hope it doesn't get too hot for you - we are under a red alert here at home and the heat is just awful!
