Helmsley Walled Garden and Ryedale Folk Museum

So Helmsley Walled Garden was open today so after my fluff up yesterday off I went.

The garden was built to provide fruit and vegetables to the family at Duncombe Park and there has been a walled garden at Helmsley since 1758. The garden was left to go derelict after the last leaseholder left  until 1994 when Alison Ticehurst started a programme to restore it. Apparently Alison Ticehurst died before it was completed but the work continues. Obviously mid September isn't the best time to visit but it still looked pretty good and I will revisit at a different time.

I've passed the sign to Ryedale Folk Museum many times and today I went to visit.

Its aim to show life in the North York Moors starting from the Iron Age.

Medieval Manor House

We may not have equality but we've come a fair way as this shows. It's from a 1950 book called Girls World.

Iron Age roundhouse

Medieval Crofter cottage.

Interesting place to visit!
