Viareggio is a small city in Northern Coast of Tuscany by the Tyrrenhian sea it has been home to a carnival since 1873 and its papier-mâché floats, which (since 1925), parade along the promenade known as "Passeggiata a mare", in the weeks of Carnival.
Now I never looked around the town but headed straight for the seashore and the Passeggiata a mare which is fabulous place to wander on a good day. The promenade is lined with shops, eateries, coffee shops. The shops sell a mix of standard beach gear, fashion and you can get a haircut!
This is the mascot of Carnival and a good reminder that he is at the street that leads to the station!
A lot of the beaches you have to pay to use.
I stopped for a coffee. Whereas in Venice and Florence I had noticed coffee had really gone up in price here it was very reasonable.
Beach huts Italian syle?
At the far end there is more greenery and it is a good spot for wildlife.
the Fossa dell'Abate
After crossing over I turned back, I like this sign!
I like the way the benches had been decorated.

The weather looks glorious and what a lovely place to explore. Great insect photos and I like the benches and the face in the last picture :)
