Well I did my first classical concert in xx years on thursday so 4 days later I did my second.
I met up with Trish (i won't embarass her) and took her to see St Margaret's just off Oxford Circus - a masterpiece of Victorian Gothic revival.
Trish treated me to pizza and then on to Wigmore Hall to see the cellist Sol Gabetta and pianist Lauma Skride.
They opened with Beethoven's Cello Sonata in D Op. 102 No. 2, nicely played and all that but not a great piece.
There followed Mendelssohn's Cello Sonata No. 2 in D Op. 58, this was a lovely piece and beautifully played.
I had reservations beforehand about Ginastera Pampeana No. 2 but live I was won over, Gabetta really shone here.
There was an encore Prayer (From Jewish Life No. 1) by Swiss composer Ernest Bloch it was very good. It's the piece of hers below.
An excellent hour with two very talented young ladies. Oh you can hear the concert on the BBC website (if you live in the UK) but you won't hear the excellent encore !

An amazing church and an excellent concert and two very talented and skilled performers; and lunch wasn't bad either.
I really enjoyed the music again today but like you, hadn't expected to have my preferences for the music turned upside down! Here's to the next one :)
Lovely photos Pete, beautiful music and very talented sisters!
P.S. Will have to visit Otmoor more often then ! ;)
I'm impressed with the colours inside the church. Sounds like the concert was lovely.
