Back walking

Well I am back on local walks. When the sun is shining I find it very therapeutic. I really ought to go down Rye Meads and Amwell.

Anyhow.

This chap has got his colour back!

The local ponds have had lots of Moorhen chicks. There have been lots of broods!

Its a hard life being a pony.

No idea what this is!

Bledlow Church

After visiting Jordans the other week I had one church in Buckinghamshire left. I contacted them and they were kind enough to suggest some dates to me so today I went off to visit

895 Holy Trinity, Bledlow

You visit this church along a lane lined with cottages and Georgian houses.  It is all very picturesque.

These are in the porch.

You can tell that at one point the roof was much higher

I only had my phone so zoomed in a bit.

There is lots of carving within the church which is nice to see. There is also some heraldic glass and remnants of wall paintings.

Bledlow's chief treasure is the very fine Aylesbury font dating to the 12th  century.

I didn't understand why this window is covering a plain one and is not inserted. Apparently it came  from a non-conformist church. It is a war memorial.

A very nice visit and thank you to Sarah for getting me access.

Lytes Cary & Tintinhull

Lytes Cary is a medieval manor house in Somerset. Parts of it date to the 14th century with additions being made in the century after particularly the 15th, 16th, 18th and 20th century. The chapel predates the house being built about 1343 and was also a chantry chapel.

The 17th century gardens have disappeared and today we have the Jenners Arts and Crafts garden from the beginning of the 20th century. I like them.

The garden at Tintinhull was on my way back to my B&B so off I went.

It is a 20th century Arts and Crafts garden around a 17th century house. It is relatively small but it is one I rather like.
