Canons Ashby

Canons Ashby is a "small" tudor house in Northamptonshire. It was built from the stone of the former priory. Two bays of the priory survive as a parish church which is a quarter of what it was.

The house was owned by the same family for 4 centuries and is an interesting visit and is a bit of mish mash of styles.

I like Canons it is a bit isolated from other NT properties and feels a bit more independent and less corporate. The gardens are small but pleasant. Obviously in November they aren't at their best. There is also some parkland which today was populated by sheep.

The painting was done by Elizabeth Creed see the panel below.

You can see how much of the church has been lost.

See one of the pics above from the church for the story of this boy/

This wall painting dates to 1580-1630 and was covered over for centuries!

A nice day!
