On their twitter feed the other day the National Trust posted the question, "if you could share a scone with anyone in history, who would you pick and why?"
Now obviously scones get mentioned on this blog occasionally COUGH COUGH COUGH so I gave it some thought. I did reply that the other important questions were which team room and which baker. The which baker though requires the wisdom of Solomon and is a project National Trust Scones is embarking on, but would even she be able to choose between Flatford and Dunwich?
Anyway who would I choose? There are lots of fascinating historical figures I'd like to meet but I opted for Octavia Hill. It would, after all, be interesting to hear what the founder of the National Trust thought of the Trust in the 21st century don't you think?
It would also be interesting to hear what the travel writer HV Morton would think of the modern heritage industry.
I'm not sure it is a good idea to meet ones heroes. People do tend to have feet of clay and anyway they are never like you imagine.
BUT if I am honest I'd settle for a scone with my Mum at Blicking where we both spent many a happy holiday in distant days.

Interesting concept and yes... would our 'heroes' live up to expectations? I chose Nelson Mandela... admire his drive and commitments..
but you and your Mum having a scone... best one ...
