I awoke this morning to a rather sharp frost. I really didn't want to get out of my warm bed!! I did nip downstairs for a cup of tea and to stick the heating on!
When I did go out it was dull and grey. I considered going to Cambridge but stopped at the forest. I wanted to try out a lens I bought the other week for my Panasonic GF1 the new 14 f2.5. I know Trish wants to see how it performs!
Black & White or colour version?
The local ducks weren't happy as there lake was frozen!
It was flipping cold and I stopped for a cup of tea and a sausage sarnie.
Lots of redwings about and the lake had some teal and gadwall. Lots of Bulfinches about.
St John's Bush End sits right next to the forest. It's a simple victorian church but I thought I'd pop in.

I absolutely love the forest photos and the coloured ones are my favorite. The old wood and trees show up beautifully. I'm so glad that you braved the cold to get these shots.
Colour pic's very nice Pete.
But for me, Ohhh you just cannot beat that atmosphere of peace and calm you only get with B/W photo's.
Its a medium of photography that just can't be beaten! Well for me anyway.
Thanks for posting those.
paul.
The second one looks almost black and white, due to the light, but I think is better than the first. Perhaps that one needs a bit more contrast?
Love pic 5 with that tree stump in the foreground.
That's a nice lens.
Well you should be pleased with the lens - I want one even more now :D
I agree with Di, the tree stump picture is great! And yes a bit more contrast in the 2nd pic.. I think the suggestion of colour gives more depth... not sure that the B&W works for that one.
Those poor cows don't look as though they've enough to eat in the frost!!
The stump was winning, but the snowberry cropped or a closer shot would have been my choice.
Superb, atmospheric photos, Pete. You must be really pleased with that lens. I especially love the 4th and 5th pictures. I can't make my mind up whether I like the black and white or colour picture best from the first two.
Hey, I think your b&w are great for this time of year. The first one is terrrific. I also like the stump; it might be nice in sepia. and the shot just before the first cow might be nice in sepia as well. If you wanted, the contrast could be beefed up a bit.

They are all good, but I like the colour one as it shows the frost more clearly. I also like the one of the log lying along the ground.
Bush End ... that's where my ancestors on dad's side of the family were from - my great grandmother's sister was buried in the churchyard there.
