Cormorants come into conflict with anglers and fish farms. According to Dr. Dan Forman who led a study by Swansea university 8 Cormorants can kill 100 fish in a session and can return to a site 3 or 4 times per day.
He said
This survey highlights evidence of fishery and predator conflict in Wales, especially as predator populations have increased. However, it is important to maintain a balance between protecting the economic interests of these businesses and maintaining recovering populations such as the otter. The majority of fisheries in this study perceived predators as a threat to their income.
What we’re trying to do is find some way that both predators and businesses can co-exist. It’s all very well to blame the predators but we can go to Tesco – they can’t.

This sort of situation always presents a conflict; But I feel it's important to keep a balance particularly when it's one species against another: in this case otters v. cormorants!
I always thought Mother Nature was the best judge of balance between species!!! Her jugment though, has never had to deal with the greed of man!!!
