Birds and Butterflies

I am not built for heat! I'd like a nice bright sunny day with a temperature of a constant 72 and a nice light breeze.

Anyway I headed off to Hatfield Forest haven't been for AGES!!

Lots of youngsters about including....

Green Woodpecker!! A family party no less, Mum, Dad and junior.

I headed to the Lake to see if any of the star youngsters had made it. Finally saw both adult terns but no youngster....

Ducks chilling out.

Yes the Grebes have made it!

uh hang on what's that ? YES a fledge juvenile tern!

Large White

I also saw Garden Warlber, Willow Warbler, Common Whitethroat and family groups of Bullfinch

and on to Amwell

Another Gatekeeper

Young Blue Tit

A vole don't ask me what type. It was very shy and this was as good as I got.

Male Chaffinch

Red Admiral

Speckled Wood

How great is that to get a family of 3 Green Woodies!

Like the Red Admiral on the ripening blackcurrants.

Well done. Beautiful pictures. What interesting woodpeckers and the bird in flight is fabulous. The little vole is so cute. Not a wasted day for sure.

Great Pictures, Pete. Favourite are the Terns. both adults and fledgling.

I only saw a Large White today, feeding on flowers of Brambles in my garden. Seeing your Red Admiral on ripening fruit of same, gives me hope for seeing one at home.

Found a few ripe fruit on it also. And, good as I am, I left it for the birds... besides they were lying on the path, so I'd have to delve too low in order to reach them.
Also, I'd just finished making and eating a large fresh fruit-salad.

Nice bird and lepidopteran pics, Pete.

Hey, I'm going to be in Ireland in early September. Do you have a recommendation for a bird guide that would be useful to me whilst I'm there?

WOW! I mean - your pictures are no doubt always brilliant but the 'study' on the Terns flight (and I don't even know what bird that is LOL) is very impressing!

Pete - Thanks for the rapid response. That was very helpful!
