First stop was Upton House as regular readers know i go here often.
On my last visit there were ducklings and the signs were they had made it as there were plenty of young adults. There was also Grebes calling.
Raspberry and Ginger!
Now normally I'd wander about and read but Broughton Castle was nearby and was open!! I haven't been in years.
Next to the castle is the very fine St Mary the Virgin a very interesting 14th century church.
The castle was built in the 14th century as a fortified moatedmanor house. Apparently the site has been used since Romano British times and Time Team excavated a Roman Villa discovered by amateur archaeologist Keith Westcott.
I guess the most famous resident of the Manor was the 1st Viscount Saye and Sele who was a leading activist against Charles I. He managed to evade signing the death warrant so was able to make peace with Charles II at the restoration.
The manor is well worth a visit but as its a family home has limited opening hours.
