Basildon Park

Ok ok you are probably getting very bored of me going to the same old places so as Trish was up we headed to Basildon Park which is near READING!!!  I have been before but it was years ago.....

The walk from the car park to the house is quite pretty with benches with animal carvings

The boys!

The tea room is in the house and has some lovely murals.

Well time for a cup of tea and a .... :)

These were from the garden room.

Hello.... Red Kite!

The house was designed in the Palladian style by John Carr and built in 1776. The house passed through a number of owners and by 1952 it was in a terrible state. Lord and Lady Lliffe  bought it, restored it and then in 1979 left it to the National Trust. Today it is a lovely building.

Basildon Park has been used for lots of films and TV series including Pride & Prejudice (the Keira Knightly version) and Downton Abbey.

50's/60's kitchen!

All made of shells!!

Lady Lliffe chose this for her  bedroom.... good choice.

lunch was a Carrot & Coriander Soup and a cheese scone!

Nice day out shame about the awful weather!
