Any how I have discovered Pocasting and the excellent English Heritage podcast. I listened to one about Mrs Crocombe who was head cook in 1881 and thought I really ought to go! BTW Mrs Crocombe can be found in the kitchens still and I had a nice chat with her today!
It was shocking to see the pond TOTALLY dried up!
