Grandpa Puffin

The Sule Skerry ringing group recently found a bird that had been rung (banded in the states) on Sule Skerry before.

No surprise there, except that EB61097 had its ring fitted when it was first caught in July 1975!! At the time the bird was at least 2 years old. Its the oldest Puffin known in ringing in the British Isles and a year short of the world record for a Puffin.

The bird was in good health and ringers suspect it was probably raising a family. The bird was older than two of the ringers.
