So I headed to the forest.
I soon added to the yearlist with House Martin and Common Whitetroat.

And not long after that I heard my first Cuckoo, saw a Lesser Whitethroat and was pleased to see a Common Tern sitting on the tern raft (lets hope a second turns up soon).
There were 5 Grebes on the lake and I was concerned I couldn't see any young as all the nests seemed deserted.
This chap displayed for me.
But hang on what's this? A STRIPY HEAD BABY ATOP MUM!!! There is a second in there somewhere - saw them both later.
As I was drinking my cuppa (ok and eating a sandwich!) this chap sailed into view.
A couple of Cuckoos flew across the lake then this chap came in.
Record shot of a Common Whitethroat
Well think I'll spend the rest of the day at Dad's in the garden.
Lovely photos, Pete especially like the mute swan portraits. You did well to get the Common Whitethroat photo - I had no luck yesterday as every time I raised the camera they flew off!
ReplyDeleteGlad you've seen your first cuckoon and common tern :D.
Hope you had a great afternoon with your dad.
Wow, those were fantastic!
ReplyDeleteSome excellent spots by the sounds of it and love the Grebes :)
ReplyDeleteThe "bump" (not technical term!) of the mute swan cobb is extremely pronounced and looks slightly separated from its head... not seen it quite like this before.
@RR - yes nice afternoon. I wish I had got a pic of dad when i arrived. sitting in lunger in garden, Mouth open, eyes shut and listening to his walkman
ReplyDelete@attila - thank you!
