In the Shadow of the Night

My life is one of perpetual darkness at the moment.

Ooh that does sound melodramatic!! I awoke at 5:30 this morning (a normal state of affairs) and everywhere is black. I fight my way out of bed (and its a struggle) and when I leave for work 6:10 it could be midnight, a singing Robin brightens the darkness briefly).

When I come home at night even at 5pm my house is shrouded in shadows. I know its there but its just a shadow.

I don't like this time of year everywhere looks forlorn. Still its part of the changing span of life and there are always things to see, but I look forward to the Spring to get the sun on my back and some longer sunlit days.

  1. Not to worry, won't be long before you start getting more daylight.

I wonder Pete, have you ever considered a lumen-theraphy?

I know what you mean! Horrible at the moment. At 4:30 its pitch black already. Once I met a woman working with a scanning electron microscope in a room without windows and electric lights who did not see daylight at all throughout the winter working week, getting to work at 7, going home at 5... horrible, looked like a zombie

Sorry I think you'd call it "Light Therapy"

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Light_therapy

scroll down to "Seasonal affective disorder"

But even if I am told that the therapy is very effectiv, it will not enable you to see your house! LOL LOL LOL

  6. Not much fun I know.. Couldn't agree more about feeling the sun on one's back - and the first time it's felt in Spring.... it's great :)!

  7. I know the feelin Pete, although luckily I now don't have to get up as early any more since I can walk to work in 20 minutes if I rush (doesn't usually happen since I don't actually want to go to work...)

So it is light by the time I leave the house, actually it's light by the time I wake up.

It's been lovely and sunny here, warm too, although I hear it's meant to get very cold this weekend with a wind chill of -10...

  8. You see Pete I'm the opposite, I love the dark days of winter/ Don't get me wrong I like the long summer nights too, but seeing the skeletal trees against a winter sky, moonshadows over fields and so on lifts me, and come the 21st December, it starts getting lighter again (in theory). A friend of mine's wife used to get so depressed at this time of year until I held a candlelit session for her and some other friends. In complete darkness I lit the first candle, then in turn we lit candles from each other in a circle until the room was filled with light. Partly to celebrate friendship, but mainly as lighting candles in the winter brings light into our lives.

BR - I like crisp winters days with bright blue skies BUT I dislike getting up in "the middle of the night"
