Antony

I spoke to Dad's celebrant last night and I think most of the service is now sorted. She seemed very nice.

Today I took my friend Jan to the National Trust's Antony. She only lived in Cornwall for 18 years and never been.

As anyone who knows me well won't be shocked to learn we were early. Antony is lived in by the family so is only 3  days a week. The family gave the house to the National Trust in 1961 on the understanding the family could still live there. It wasn't, I believe, given in lieu of death duties.

The woodland garden down the road is owned by the family. Since the last time I went they now have someone on the gate, in fairness I suspect many people don't put money in the honesty box. NT members get in free (which is a nice touch as the property is private) when the house is open but not until the house is open. I paid the £3.50 as I was early. They've also opened a tea room which is rather nice.

The woodland garden is well worth a visit in May and you get good views of the River Lynher

The tea room

So to the house which was built in the 18th century.

Much of the walled garden was shut as it is private. I'm sure more was open in 2010

Harder than it looks Jan just like Dominos ;)

We had a cuppa THEY WERE OUT OF FRUIT SCONES!!! and headed back.  I've never played Domino's before but managed to beat Jan 2-0..... she was not happy!!

Antony is a lovely place and well worth a visit!

Super house and gardens Pete. A humanist minister conducted mum's funeral service and he was excellent. There was a form to fill in and then he spent ages with us discussing mum and her life so the service was very personal.
