Hidcote & Chastleton

I moved today to the Cotswolds. First stop was Hidcote which is one of the best-known and most influential Arts and Crafts gardens in Britain, with its linked "rooms" of hedges, rare trees, shrubs and herbaceous borders. It was created by the American Lawrence Johnston  in the first decades of the 20th century.

Chastleton is the nearest NT property to my house. It is Jacobean built around 1610. The family were catholics who backed the wrong side in the Civil war. Hence the family never had the money to modernise. The National Trust acquired the property in 1991 and rather than restore they are presenting it as it.

Chastleton was built next to its village and isn't in a separate park which is fairly unusual.

This dates to the 20's and the Egyptian theme is influenced by Howard Carters discovery of Tutenkhamun's tomb.

yes that is the parish church by the Manor.
