Kedleston and some churches.

I had three targets on my church list this morning. When I arrived at the town I had no idea where it was traffic was heavy and so I thought blow this and turned towards my next target and promptly found it.... of course it was bound to be closed wasn't it but no! there was a service on and it was open!!

850 St Giles, Sandiacre

I expected the next target to be open but it was closed.

The next was also locked but someone appeared from another door... they were cleaning and they opened for me!!

851 St Matthew, Morley

Some fine medieval glass and monuments.

Well 2 out of 3 is not bad.... and so off to Kedleston Hall

Kedleston has the annoying cafe system where you pick your table before ordering.... which is a real pain if you are on your own and have no way of reserving one!! I have mentioned this before as other NT properties have this strange bias to single visitors! ;)

The scone looks fine but the lack of duck tells you it wasn't to get a recommendation

Now Kedleston shockingly for the NT allows flash photography! Apparently they take the view that the small amount of damage is offset by people sharing photos online encouraging other visitors....  I only used flash once. Habit.

The estate was owned by the Curzon family since the 13th century (at least). The house is magnificent.

This is Italian, Apparently the chap is her father and is in prison without food so each day she breast fed him.... bizarre!

There is a collection of Indian art as Lord Curzon was Viceroy of India at the beginning of the 20th century.

All Saints is now redundant and in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust. It is not in the book but in my opinion should be!

The tomb of Lord Curzon (the Indian Viceroy).

The churches all look superb Pete especially like the medieval glass. Keddleston Hall looks superb - I do believe there is a famous ancient oak in the park there. Great pics :)
