Chirk Castle

I've had to split today in two!

I had toyed with going into Chester but the traffic looked heavy so I headed straight to Chirk Castle which is just south of Wrexham.

Chirk was built by a branch of the Mortimer in 1295. The Myddelton family bought it in 1593 and still live there. The Myddelton's were parliamentarians but turned Royalist in 1659 which was REMARKABLY adept of them ;)

Lovely statue of the young woman. Love the coloured sheep as well. Of course the house itself is wonderful.
