A day in Bologna

We decided to visit Bologna as it looked a good base for visiting Ferrara, Modena, Parma and Ravenna so decided it would be worth checking out.

The train journey was surprisingly dull as much of it was through tunnels still it was short..... we picked a wet day to visit.....

saw this in the station, just made me laugh....

San Petronio

I think this is Via Pescherie Vecchie... we got a coffee for 1.30 euros sitting down!

Oh god the food shops!

Bologna has a series of arcades in summer they keep the sun off..... or in this case the rain!

This little dog didn't want to move!

San Giovanni in Monte

The Basilica Santo Stefano is a complex of religious building quite fascinating.....

Torre d. Anselli

San Giacomo Maggiore

alas no pics so a few cards :) it is amazing!

Some more food shops??

Curiously despite all of that wonderful food I really struggled to find a small trattoria or osteria in Bologna around that area! Did find one and had a nice Tagiatelle and a glass of Vino! I think I may have been unlucky.

I never really fell in love with Bologna. Maybe if the sun had shone...... another time.

More gorgeous photos Pete - the churches and architecture etc. over there are just wonderful.

Hope you soon feel a bit better cold-wise!
