Sconeathon

My plans for today were turned on their head when the people running the East of England Facebook and Twitter pages mentioned that Dunwich Heath were running special festive scones..........

Trish was up so we headed off early and got to Dunwich Heath....... Dunwich has views over Minsmere and Trish suggested maybe we could pop in but as the cold blasted into us her view changed :) Still nice to see a Marsh Harrier.

Dunwich meeter and greeter!

We wandered down the heath with a target bird in mind and we soon saw a Dartford Warbler!! Lovely little bird. We also saw Stonechat, Goldcrest and Coal Tit as well as Red Deer

It struck 10 and we were freezing so off for a cuppa!

Scones were coming out of the oven and only two were available

Salmon & Dill scone

Butternut Squash and Bacon scone

Please note I didn't eat both they were cut in half and shared!

Hang on there are more of them now! So uhm...... Cranberry and Stilton :)

Rob the scone master and his art ......

My regret is we never got the Christmas Cake Scone but by the time it came out of the oven we were full!!

So where to? Trish decided that as Flatford was on the way home....

Cup of tea time.....

Trish was DESPERATE to try a Mince Pie scone! It was yummy by the way!

St Mary's East Bergholt

The tower was started in 1525 but they run out of funds in 1531. Local legend has it that Cardinal Wolsey (a local lad) was financing but he died in 1530. That's why they have the bell cage.
